Be peaceful. Be strong. Be the rock. It is human nature to worry, but we can learn to understand who is in control and learn to worry less.
Human beings worry about everything. Parents worry about their children. They worry who they will be when they grow up, their grades, their choices. Kids worry about school, their exams or trouble on the playground. We worry about finding that perfect job, landing interviews, making money. We bring work home with us and worry about meetings, raises and climbing the ladder. There are infinite reasons to worry. But do we need to? Isn’t it a waste of time, energy?
Yes, it definitely is. But how do we control it? Read this:
” Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can anyone of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will He not much more clothe you — you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘ What shall we eat? ‘ or ‘ What shall we drink? ‘ or ‘ What shall we wear? ‘ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own”. Matthew 6:25-34
What a passage! How can we worry, as believers, after reading that? I know it is somehow embedded in our very being to worry and doubt. But we must fight it! We will never reach perfection, but we can always strive for it. This is important for us men because we are the head of the household. While the rest of the family runs around worrying about anything off that above list, we need to be there to comfort and bring understanding to them. We will never be able to beat worry, especially in an entire household. But if we are strong and worry-free, we can lead the family down a peaceful path and to a worry-free life. Try to cut your worrying in half, if not more, this weekend. Just relax, and let things fall into place around you. Don’t worry about appearances, what people around you say or think. Maybe take it a step further and don’t even plan a meal one night until last-minute. Maybe you’ll find a friend will invite you for dinner! Find a way to somehow cut down on your worrying and find out how at peace you will feel.
